A Day in the Life at COMsolve: Alan Miles & Dan Grainger, Tower Technicians.

Meet Our Tower Technicians: Alan Miles and Dan Grainger

At COMsolve, our team is our greatest asset, and we are excited to introduce you to two of our dedicated tower technicians: Alan Miles and Dan Grainger. Their unique backgrounds, commitment to their work, and the camaraderie they share make them invaluable members of our team. Here’s a glimpse into their lives and experiences.

Meet Alan and Dan:

Alan Miles is a devoted family man with three children—two girls, aged 11 and 12, and a 9-year-old boy. When he’s not scaling towers, Alan enjoys the thrill of country cruises on his Harley and showcasing his Foxbody Mustang at car shows. At COMsolve, he serves as a full-time climber, rigger, and foreman.

Daniel Grainger, known as Dan, balances his demanding job with a rich family life. He has two children, an 8-year-old and a toddler. Dan is a rigger at COMsolve, contributing his extended experience to his other team members.

What do they do?

Both Alan and Dan work on telecommunication sites, climbing various towers and rooftops. Their daily routines typically start with driving to the site, preparing the necessary safety documentation and tools required for the day preparing them for ascending to begin the task at hand. The job demands a high level of physical fitness and technical expertise.

What do they enjoy best about their job?

For Alan, the best part of his job is the adrenaline rush from working at great heights and the spectacular views from different locations. He also values the camaraderie with his colleagues, which makes each day enjoyable and fulfilling. Similarly, Dan loves the variety his job offers, working in different locations and enjoying diverse views. Through his work, he has travelled extensively, from Ottawa to Edmonton, and loves experiencing the beauty of the countryside along the way.

What do they find most challenging about being a tower climber?

Troubleshooting can be particularly challenging and sometimes frustrating for Alan. However, the work culture at COMsolve provides a supportive environment that helps him overcome these hurdles. Dan, on the other hand, finds that being away from his family for extended periods can be most challenging for him.

What do they find memorable about this job?

Among many memorable experiences, one that stands out for Alan is working across Detroit, Michigan. The stories and adventures from this period are cherished memories, though some are kept close to his heart. For Dan, working with Alan has been a highlight, describing him as quite a character. He fondly recalls a particularly amusing incident involving another colleague, who found himself temporarily stuck in a precarious position within a tower—a memory that still brings a smile to his face.
